Run For Your Heart

DR. PETER MANCAO lives by the age-old saying: “Practice What You Preach.” One of Cebu’s top cardiovascular surgeons, Dr. Mancao knows that to keep one’s heart vigorous and pulsating, one has to run, jump, stretch, lift, smash, kick and sweat. In one word: Exercise.

And so Dr. Mancao is one who not only exercises—I’m sure you’ve read that he finished the New York City Marathon last November—but he also helps other people turn into vibrant and energized individuals. How?

This Sunday, Feb. 10, it’s the 2nd edition of the “Run For Your Heart” event that Dr. Mancao has helped organized. I joined this race last year beside hundreds of others and, truly, my heart was given a run. Here’s more from Dr. Mancao: “The Philippine Heart Center Medical Alumni Society (PHCMAS) Cebu Chapter in cooperation with the Philippine Heart Association(PHA) Cebu Chapter will be holding the “Run For Your Heart 2008” 5-K and 10-K runs. The assembly area will be at the Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital Gymnasium at the corner of Gov M. Roa and Maria Cristina St. Technical support for the event will be provided by the Cebu Road Runners Club and the Sight First Clinic Running Club. For more details, email [email protected].”

I've been a sports columnist since 1994. First, in The Freeman newspaper under "Tennis Is My Game." Then, starting in 2003, with Sun.Star Cebu under the name "Match Point." Happy reading!
